Colosseum in Rome

The Colosseum is a world wonder, because it is the greatest Roman amphitheatre of Ancient times. It’s also a symbol of violence, power, and grandeur. The Colosseum, a place of entertainment were slaves, gladiators, prisoners, and animals fought. The fighters stayed under a room in the Colosseum. There were water pipes under the Colosseum for amphibious fighters. People sat in the Colosseum according to class. Lower class people had to sit all the way at the top of the amphitheatre. Middle class people didn’t sit at the very top like low class people did, they sat in the middle of them and the high class people. The High class people had seats all the way in the front so they had a clearer view than the lower class did. If the fight didn’t end with death they were spared by Emperor Vespasian, he ruled the Colosseum. The fights were bloody and thousands of people and animals were killed each year, because of the fights.
The Construction of the Colosseum started in A.D 75(the eight century) the construction ended in A.D. 80.Vespasian decided to change the name of the Colosseum into the Flavian Amphitheatre. He named it the Flavian Amphitheatre, because it was the last name of the family who watched the Colosseum during the construction. He did this in honor of them and to show that he was appreciative for what they had done. The Colosseum is 157ft. tall and 290ft. by 180ft. It can seat up between 45,000 to 50,000 people. The floor was made up of fine wood and covered with sand. Two fifths of the Colosseum is ruined from earthquakes, floods, thunderstorms.

The Christians adopted the Roman Empire. Christians had a good influence on the Romans. As soon as the Christians adopted the Roman Empire violent acting’s stopped. Since violence stopped the building started to fall apart and nobody wanted to repair it. The reason the Colosseum is still standing is because it’s a reminder of the past glory of Ancient Rome. Another reason is because it would cost a lot of money because the Colosseum is far away from being small. The Colosseum is a great wonder of the world.
